The raid on Mar-a-lago

In case you missed it, the FBI performed a raid on President Trump’s Mar-a-lago home this morning, apparently to recover several documents that were supposed to be returned to the Whitehouse archives. We all know how seriously the FBI takes missing documents of course after those midnight raids at the Clinton’s home when they swooped in to collect the private server that Hillary was using illegally or that time they immediately bashed down the door of Hunter Biden’s house to retrieve the information on his dealings with China or Ukraine, the dodgy laptop, the ‘art’ sales, the crack smoking, the allegedly under age prostitutes etc. Everyone remembers that time they immediately raided Epstein Island to recover all those servers before the data got removed and the Island got scrubbed.

So what’s going on here?

Aside from the obvious, that the FBI and other Government departments have been turned into political weapons to use against the Democratic parties enemies, this is a way of poking a message into the man-on-the-street’s brain. Think about it, only those who take an active interest in politics will remember the outcome of the Mueller enquiry, most people will not have cared much. They will remember it happened and will know that it was ‘something to do with investigating Trump’. The average man will also be able to answer a pub quiz question ‘how many times was Trump impeached?’ or ‘who is the President who was impeached most times in a 4 year term?’ They won’t have actually registered or cared about whether Trump was actually found guilty or not. The details don’t matter, the constant repetition from the TV screen will have done its job.

So the first part of this nonsense is about image. The media now have plenty of photos of FBI agents outside Mar-a-lago, they can repeat and repeat ad nauseam sound bites like ‘during the FBI raid on the President’s house’ and the guilt by association and the messaging sticks. The FBI have also now set a precedent, anytime they want to turn up and investigate Trump they can as it’s ‘all part of the ongoing investigation’. In other words, in any 2024 Presidential run, he has absolutely nowhere safe to hide. Literally, as they also forced open his safe.

Reaction

The second part of this I think is about pushing Trump supporters - or indeed anyone to the right of Chairman Mao - until they break. What’s currently happening to the average working person is an absolute disgrace. Taxes go up, freedoms are restricted or removed, bureaucratic interference in our lives is constantly increasing and how available are the usual methods of letting off steam?

We are constantly badgered that alcohol is bad for you.

Smoking is pretty much banned everywhere.

Travel (Covid restrictions aside) is increasingly expensive and annoying, with flights cancelled regularly.

Can’t go for a drive without spending a fortune on fuel, or getting a speeding ticket for doing 31mph in a 30zone.

The first thing that people cut from their budget when money is tight is leisure activities and even if you want to go to the movies or sit in and watch Netflix you can’t do it without having the latest ‘message’ rammed down your throat.

It feels like we are constantly being pressured, pressed and restricted and all our pressure release valves are being removed or being made illegal.

… this is just the state increasing its grip on all our lives, like an insane control freak who can’t read the room. What the FBI and US Government seem to be doing, is pushing people until they reach breaking point, with the hope that there is a reaction.

We’ve all seen the videos or heard about kids being bullied at school. Usually the kid being bullied will take the abuse for a time, avoiding confrontation or walking away from the bully. However, at some point enough becomes enough and violent or extreme reaction happens. Quite simply the victim has had enough. The raid of Mar-a-lago feels like another ratchet on the pressure grip the US Government has on Conservatives, a deliberate attempt to increase the pressure and almost dare them to react.

• Create a problem.

• Wait for the reaction.

• Provide the solution.

What would the Government do if Conservatives finally say ‘enough is enough’ and make their point plain to the Government? What would be their solution?

I dread to think, but it feels like we’re fast approaching the time we’re going to find out.
